Description:
This course equips teachers with practical tools to recognise, analyse and teach about misinformation, fake news and digital manipulation. Participants explore media literacy frameworks, algorithmic bias, fact-checking techniques and strategies for teaching responsible digital citizenship. The course focuses on building critical thinking skills and preparing students to navigate today’s complex information landscape safely and responsibly.
Aims and Objectives
Participants will:
- Understand key mechanisms of misinformation and online manipulation
- Develop skills to evaluate sources critically and identify fake news
- Learn classroom-ready media literacy activities
- Explore tools for teaching digital citizenship and online safety
- Strengthen students’ critical thinking and resilience to manipulation
- Integrate media analysis into different subjects and school levels
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify signs of misinformation using structured criteria
- Teach fact-checking and source evaluation techniques
- Explain algorithmic bias and filter bubbles in student-friendly language
- Facilitate classroom discussions on media influence
- Implement age-appropriate media literacy exercises
- Support students in becoming responsible digital citizens

Target groups: Teachers of all school levels, school leaders, Erasmus+ project teachers, educators working on citizenship, digital competence or critical thinking.
Minimum level of language: English, B1

Price: EUR 560 + EUR 50 registration fee.

Applicable funds: As part of the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 (KA1), all costs for mobility /travel expenses, course fees, accommodation, subsistence fee/ are covered by the fund.
Planned program
Day 1: Sunday: Arrival, introduction of the course and the location, introduction of the participants
Registration during the day
14.30 – 15.00: Familiarisation with the site, health and safety briefing
15.00 – 17.30: Introduction of the course and trainer, introduction of the participants – 5 minutes for each participant to introduce themselves and their institution and the objectives they wish to achieve by completing the course
18.00 – 19.30: Informal get-together with the course participants over dinner.
Day 2: Monday
- Understanding misinformation: concepts, case studies, psychological mechanisms; group discussions
Day 3: Tuesday
- Critical evaluation of sources; fact-checking tools; hands-on analysis workshop
Day 4: Wednesday
- Algorithmic bias, filter bubbles, digital influence; designing classroom activities
Day 5: Thursday
- Media literacy across subjects; project creation; group collaboration
Day 6. Friday
- Digital citizenship & online safety; creating school-level action plans; presentations
Day 7: Saturday: End of the course – cultural programme
